What does Alpha Delta Gamma mean to our members?
On behalf of the Brothers of Alpha Delta Gamma—Zeta Chapter, I would like welcome you to our website.
What is a fraternity, and what is its purpose? This is a very difficult question to answer. It is a question that those on the outside cannot quantify and those on the inside can scarcely qualify. It is because what unites us is something that cannot be summed up in mere words, but it is rather something that permeates the fiber of the fraternity man. The purpose, simply put, is brotherhood.
The brotherhood of Alpha Delta Gamma is founded upon the core values instilled with our Jesuit education at Rockhurst University, where we are men for others caring for the whole person, and men who reflect the values of our lives and discern how best our lives reflect these values.
As a fraternity, we pride ourselves upon the “5 S’s”: Spiritual, Scholastic, Service, School Spirit, and Social. These words take on a deeper meaning than their simple definitions imply. They form the core of what it means to be an “Alpha Delta Gamma man,” where a man is never the lowest brick, but rather the highest brick on our ever-growing city walled.
At Rockhurst we have consistently strived for and achieved academic excellence. In our community, we are leaders of many different organizations too numerous and varied to appropriately list here. We strive for the fulfillment of each and every brother through “mutual encouragement and good example,” as the words of our National Prayer echo.
Finally, we are men for each other. The fraternal bonds of brotherhood are among the most sacred and meaningful bonds we, as men, shall form during our lives. Though we are students and leaders to the community, we are most importantly brothers. While we are here at Rockhurst, we seek to grow these bonds of fraternity into relationships that will last past our graduation dates and continue through the rest of our lives. Though men of varied backgrounds, experiences, interests, and life trajectories, we are bound by the common values which unite us behind the letters of Alpha Delta Gamma.
Whether you are a man perhaps wishing to inquire and discern about fraternity life with ADG, a parent of a collegiate man, an active, an alumni, or a fellow Greek, I would again like to extend a humble welcome and invitation to explore our brotherhood further on this website.
Ad Dei Gloriam,
Ryan Scott Smith
